One quiet morning, a wife walked into the kitchen and noticed a note resting neatly on the fridge. It wasn’t unusual for her husband to leave reminders—but something about this one felt different.
Curious, she took it down and began to read.
“My dear wife,
You must understand that at my age—57—I still have certain needs that, unfortunately, you’re no longer able to fulfill. Please don’t misunderstand me. I am truly happy with you and deeply appreciate everything you’ve been throughout our marriage.
However, I hope you won’t take this the wrong way when I tell you that tonight, I’ll be spending the evening with my 19-year-old secretary at the Comfort Inn.
Please don’t be upset. I’ll be home before midnight.”
She read the letter once.
Then again.
Her face didn’t change. No anger. No tears. No dramatic reaction.
She simply folded the note, placed it down, and went on with her day as if nothing had happened.
That night, the husband returned home—slightly later than promised, though still expecting everything to be… normal.
Instead, he found the house quiet.
And on the dining table, a single note waiting for him.
He picked it up.
“My dear husband,
I received your message this morning, and I want to thank you for your honesty about my age—57.
However, I’d like to gently remind you… that you are also 57.
As you know, I teach mathematics at the local college. So while you’re reading this, I’m currently at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael—one of my students, who also happens to be the assistant tennis coach.
He’s young. Energetic.
And just like your secretary… he’s 19.
Now, being the intelligent businessman you are, I’m sure you’ll appreciate this simple calculation:
19 goes into 57 far more times… than 57 goes into 19.
So, based on that logic—
I won’t be home until sometime tomorrow.”
The husband slowly lowered the note.
The confidence he had that morning… gone.
The logic he thought justified everything… suddenly turned against him.
